Walter

Name: Walter

Age: 10 months

Sex: Male

Breed: Dachshund

Ref number: 33

Personality:
Walter is a friendly playful boy with a big character for a little dog and he has made lot of human friends since he joined us. He is affectionate and enjoys playing with toys. He can be a little nervous in some situations but is gaining confidence daily and loves making
friends with other small dogs. Walter is anxious at times and has had an unsettled past so is looking for his forever home who will allow
him lots of time to settle in. New adopters will receive post adoption behaviour support.

Behaviour:
Walter is excitable and bouncy and often wants to jump up at his human friends, we are working hard to encourage him to keep all 4 paws on the floor and he is responding well to training. This will benefit him long term to prevent any potential problems with his back due to his breed. Walter has spent some time in a foster home and this has given us more information on his behaviour. Walter is quite an anxious boy and struggles to settle on his own. He can also be quite reactive (he barks) to different sounds in and outside the house. Walter will need dedicated owners who are prepared to help him settle and work through his noise reactivity.

Housing:
Walter would benefit from living in a home with access to a garden so he can have a run around and use up some of his energy. He will
need a 6ft perimeter as he can jump very high and will try to escape a garden! Due to separation anxiety Walter will need to live in a home where someone is around most of the day and he may need to learn to be left gradually. He cannot be rehomed to the PO16 area. Walter cannot be rehomed to a busy area as he will find this very overwhelming.

Children/pets:
Walter would benefit from living in a home with adults and children over the age of 13 years. Walter can live with other dogs.

Vet history:
Walter currently has irritated skin and is having on going treatment for this. This is improving but potential adopters may need to continue this in the home. New adopters should be aware that this may not be covered by insurance in the future. Walter is fully vaccinated and up to date with flea and worming treatments. Walter will need to be castrated at a suitable age, he will need to return to the centre post adoption in order to do this.

Adoption fee:
The adoption fee is £180. If you would like to make an additional donation over and above the adoption fee, this would be hugely appreciated.

Additional information:

We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.

Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.

Due to the high number of applications we receive daily, regrettably we will only be able to contact the successful applicant.

Please note you have to be 18+ to apply for an animal
