Rehoming – Profile
Pom Bear came into the shelter originally as a stray. This means we have little history on his life before he came into us.
Behaviour observations on site:
Please do not apply for Pombear if you do not meet his homing criteria.
Pom bear is a bundle of energy who enjoys playing and will happily walk for miles. He can take time to make friends and is unsure of over handling by new people, once he feels comfortable with you he is such a cuddly boy!
Pombear is currently being muzzle trained as he finds vet visits stressful and he will need to wear one in certain situations. He is doing well with his muzzle training but new adopters must be willing to carry this on in the home to keep up a positive association.
Experience of the breed type will be essential to fully understand his traits and needs. He will need regular grooming as he has a thick double coat.
Pom bear will thrive in a quiet home with a secure garden to play in and active people who can give him long regular walks.
He will require multiple visits with potential adopters here at the shelter before going into a new home. New adopters must be able to allow Pombear to initiate contact on his own terms, especially when it comes to meeting new people. It may be beneficial to walk Pombear on a ‘caution’ lead or similar, to highlight to people that he is not comfortable being approached by those he does not know, and has the possibility to nip in this situation.
Pombear is currently quite vocal when left alone, it is difficult to tell whether or not this is down to being in kennels or if he is suffering from separation anxiety. New adopters should be prepared to potentially work through some separation anxiety related behaviours in the future.
With time and patience, Pombear will make a fantastic companion. When trust is gained, he is such a wonderful boy who loves affection and to be groomed.
