Rehoming – Profile
History:
June and Mae came from a multi-guinea pig household where breeding had gotten out of control.
Behaviour observations on site:
June and Mae are looking for a loving home to spend the rest of their seasons with. Can you offer this mother and daughter pair the forever home that they are looking for?
Sadly, June came into our care showing signs of poor vision and has since been assessed by a veterinary eye specialist who confirmed that she is blind in both eyes. This doesn’t stop her though! June is a confident and inquisitive piggie who will always venture over to say “hello”. She loves a long session on your lap in the afternoons when she can have your undivided attention and lots and lots of cuddles. Mae still hides a little behind Mum – she’s rather sensitive to noises and movement and these will see her immediately scurry off to one of their hides but June’s ease soon encourages her back out. Mae just needs a little more patience and someone who can help build up her confidence around people and then we think mum and daughter will really blossom in a home.
Both girls love a good gnaw toy – Mae is particularly enjoying scratching and chewing at their cardboard tunnel at the moment – and veg time, and both toys and veg are soon demolished!
Due to June’s blindness, these girls will not be able to be rehomed with other guinea pigs as she will likely struggle to mix well with others.
If you think you could offer them the home that they need, we’re sure June and Mae will bring much-added sunshine into your life.
June and Mae will need a 6ft x 2ft enclosure indoors or outdoors and we do recommend a run for the garden with a lid.
If you are interested in June and Mae, please fill in an application form and send in any photos you may have of your set up to help speed up the adoption process. Thank you.
We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the guinea pigs.
Medical history:
June and Mae were treated for ringworm on entry to the shelter but have now been cleared for this by our vet.
June is blind in both eyes but she is not in any pain, does not require any eye treatment and copes very well with her lack of vision.
Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.
