Hamster accommodation

Hamsters are naturally nocturnal rodents this means they will sleep in the day and be most active at night. They generally have poor eyesight and will spend most of their time in the wild foraging for food at night and will sleep underground in the day.

Hamsters are busy little rodents who need lots of enrichment to keep them busy along with deep bedding for them to burrow under.

What size set up do I need?

A Syrian hamster will need a minimum of 100cm by 50cm of unbroken floor space.

They also need deep bedding to be able to burrow a minimum of 6 inches of bedding is recommended.

Suitable enclosures

Remember!

Just because a cage looks appealing and is bright and colourful doesn’t mean its suitable. Hamsters should have as little plastic as possible and their set up should be wide, not tall. The more natural the better.
