Name: Bella and Dora
Age: 5 months
Sex: Females
Breed: Rats
Ref number: 7 and 8
Personality:
These two snoozy sisters are often seen snuggled up together in their hammock bed. Dora being the braver one of the two will come over to say hello and give you a little sniff. Bella will show more hesitance to interact, but is slowly following in Dora’s footsteps. When their energy is rebooted, these pretty girls love to dart about their enclosure or to find a tasty dried mealworm to snack on!
Behaviour:
Since being in our care Bella and Dora have grown gradually in confidence, they are now approaching the front of their cage to say hello when we are nearby. They can be quite vocal when attempting to pick them up. The girls currently can be a bit unsettled when being handled, so we aim to be hands off in order to slowly build trust and enjoyment with handling.
Housing:
Large indoor rat cage, sizes of cage can be discussed with staff. If experienced in rat mixing, they could be mixed with other rats but the suitable size of accommodation would depend on the overall number of rats living there. Or they can be homed as a pair. The ability to offer supervised free roam time in a secure rat-proof room is preferred and experience with mixing rats.
Children/pets:
Can live with dogs/cats in a separate room. Age requirement of children is 12+ years, due to the approach on how they are both handled and socialized. Both girls can be a bit timid and wriggly when being picked up, and can easily be startled so children would need to be supervised if interacting.
Vet history:
Bella and Dora currently have no medical issues.
