Name: Merlin
Age: 4 years 11 months
Sex: Male
Breed: Cockapoo
Ref number: 132
Personality:
Merlin is a gorgeous 5 year old cockapoo who is finally ready to find his forever home. Merlin has been with us for a little while now whilst we have worked through some behaviour quirks. Merlin is a bright, friendly boy who has been through a lot in his life so far. We are now seeking a dedicated, experienced family who are prepared to continue Merlin’s training and accept support from our behaviour team.
Behaviour:
Merlin has a positive outlook on life and his sunny personality is infectious! Merlin adores his long walks and is very well behaved when out and about. He is happy to greet people and dogs a like and is keen to explore new locations. He has been to the beach, the forest and on days out with our staff and has behaved perfectly. Merlin has fantastic re-call and walks very well on the lead. Merlin’s struggles are largely around intentional handling (vet visits and grooming) and resource guarding objects in the house. The staff have worked very hard to build a trusted relationship with him and he is gaining confidence in these settings, but this will have to be continued and managed in his new home. Merlin has been muzzle trained as he will need to wear a muzzle for grooming and vet handling. He is learning to wear this well but it is important training is continued. If you have experience with any of these behaviour problems, or are willing to learn all about them, and Merlin, then our behaviour team would love to chat to you.
Housing:
Merlin will need a private and secure garden but could be left for a couple of hours during the day. We feel Merlin will benefit from a quiet household, with a smaller family of 1-2 members. Merlin copes well with adult visitors but it is important that everyone visiting the house understands Merlin’s training and are happy to participate.
Children/pets:
Merlin is looking for an adult only home. Please note, applications with visiting or resident children under the age of 16 will not be processed. Merlin would also prefer a home without other animals but would enjoy dog friends to walk with.
Vet history:
Merlin has recently been given a clean bill of health but is on on-going behaviour medication. This will need to be continued for some time whilst he settles in his new home.
Additional information:
All rented and leasehold properties will require written consent from the property owner or agent. This needs to be in place before completing an application form. If your application is successful, staff will request a copy.
We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.
Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.
Due to the high number of applications we receive daily, regrettably we will only be able to contact the successful applicant.
