Name: Marshall
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
Ref number: 63
Personality:
Marshall is a super switched on little terrier who has not had the best start to life. He can be a bit worried around strangers but once he has warmed up and said hello (and perhaps had a snack from you!) he quickly relaxes and enjoys human company. Marshall can be very vocal and frustrated around other dogs – especially if he sees them walking away. He has not been exposed to much of the outside world and he can find his environment overwhelming at times. We are really excited to find this smashing terrier a fantastic home, he has so much potential!
Behaviour:
Although Marshall gets easily distracted – he does learn very quickly. Marshall can get quite overwhelmed when arounds lots of other dogs so is seeking a new home where he can be walked in quieter areas. We have fully muzzle trained Marshall and he will need to wear his muzzle on his walks at all times and when travelling in the car. When you have a relationship with Marshall, he is a super affectionate, funny little terrier. He absolutely loves training and engaging with his handlers. He enjoys sitting on your lap and having cuddles, or playing with his toys.
Marshall has been lucky enough to spend some time in a foster home and this is what his fosterer has to say about him – ‘Marshall is a cute and spirited little dog who, once he gets to know you, would make a sweet, cheeky and cuddly companion. He is clever and bright and loves learning. Marshall can push boundaries so would need an owner who has experience of terriers and would continue his training to help him reach his full potential. Marshall is very fond of treats and this makes him easy to train. He can, however find some aspects of life overwhelming and needs help to navigate his feelings. He is currently working on behaving around vacuum cleaners and riding in the car and with time may be able to walk near other calm dogs.’
Housing:
Marshall would benefit from a private garden with no neighbouring dogs or visiting cats. As he has quite a high prey drive. He would need someone who would be committed to training and understand dog body language. If you have experience with dog reactivity, we would love to hear from you!
Children/pets:
Marshall cannot live with children or any other animals. He will need to be the only pet in the house. We do not know how Marshall will cope being left on his own, however, we feel after some time, he could learn to be left on his for short periods.
Vet history:
Marshall has been fully examined and cleared by our vet medically. He is up to date with his vaccinations and his flea and worm treatment. Marshall is currently on behaviour medication to help with his frustration, we recommend he stays on this until he is fully settled in his new home. He will also need to return to the shelter once settled in his new home to be castrated.
